Apex Legends’ best mode returns next week

Apex Legends’ best chill mode returns, as Control returns to next week’s Warriors Collection event with a new location on King’s Canyon.

Kicking off with a 3-week binge at the start of Season 12, Control was the occasional gunfight Apex always needed – a more traditional capture point mode that effectively let you play Team Deathmatch with Apex’s sandbox. . It absolutely hit the mark, so I’m excited to see it return with a new map built around the King’s Canyon Caustic Treatment region.

The control had some irritating balance issues, of course. But I absolutely miss it as a way to hang out with less seasoned friends or warm up before a ranked session. I’m afraid many of these issues will be resolved, but I’m also hoping its early return means Respawn knows how popular the mode was and can bring it back more permanently.

But Control’s return isn’t the only thing coming next week. Warrior also introduces a new Arenas map, Drop-Off, a series of dense skyscraper rooftops that I can only describe as having great Halo energy. That’s a good thing – Overflow, the current best Arenas map, also has great Halo energy, with both maps seeming to be designed more like old-school arena shooter maps than condensed battle royale locations.

Being a collectible event, Warriors also includes a slew of new skins, sporting a pretty clean 80s Gladiator vibe. Without prejudice, but Horizon’s Jewel of Olympus is the absolute star, and for the first time in the history of collectible events, I am prosperous. It’s also Crypto’s turn to get a Heirloom, a sword that’s part of the Wiimote and Segmented Knife that’s rewarded for buying everything in the event.

As a transaction model, Heirlooms still aren’t great, costing around $160 for the set – and the recent decision to also sell “Mythic” quality skins under the same model has only heated the speech. But Crypto has been deserving of some love for quite some time, and I’m glad that all twelve major Crypto networks can now cut with a slick new sword, if they feel like opening their wallets.

Warriors kicks off next Tuesday, March 29 and runs until April 12.
